Levels in May were under fifty percent
Apartment complexes and hotels in Lanzarote saw occupancy levels crash by over 22% last month, ss they welcomed the lowest number of tourist guests in over forty years. According to figures just released by ASOLAN, the islands hoteliers association.
The latest ASOLAN figures reveal that occupancy levels in May fell as low as 49.10%. The lowest figure ever recorded on the island in over forty years. And a drop of 22.35% versus the same month last year.
Some accommodation types outperformed this dismal average, with aparthotels registering occupancy levels of 52.36% and four star hotels averaging 52.22% occupancy.
However the ASOLAN statistics suggest that the overall tourist arrivals for May, released later this month, will also hit new lows. As visitor numbers to the island continue to decline.
Until April end this year the number of tourist visits dropped by just over 15%, according to Spanish airport authority AENA. With the British market, Lanzarote´s largest, the worst hit. As tourist numbers fell by 16.14% during the first four months of this year. With 47,409 fewer visitors arriving on flights to Lanzarote from the UK.
