Water is to be transferred for drinking and for watering crops

Central Government has made a surprise announcement approving the Tajo to Segura water transfer.

The water can be used for both drinking and for crops in both Valencia and Murcia regions, and some will be purchased from users in Estremera, Madrid who will be paid for not watering their land.

The commission which controls such water transfers is expected to approve 70 cubic hectometres for human use, so some 2.5 million people in Murcia, Alicante and Almería will continue to drink water from the Tajo.
