She was there looking for the missing girl on the night she disappeared and said the self-confessed murderer's brother told her he had heard Marta's voice at the door

The Seville court investigating the death of Marta del Castillo, the 17 year old who was last seen on 24th January this year, has been taking more statements in the case. He interviewed five witnesses this Tuesday, including the teenager’s father, Antonio del Castillo, who told journalists that all he was asked by the judge was to ratify his original statement, and did so.

Others called to appear were Marta’s uncle and two of her friends.

The fifth witness was the mother of one of the 17 year old’s best friends, Susana G., a woman who took part in the search for Marta on the night she went missing. She told the judge that she spoke by phone with Francisco Javier Delgado – the brother of Miguel Carcaño, Marta’s self-confessed murderer – at around 4.30 on the morning of 25th January. He told her he hadn’t seen either his brother or Marta, who he said he hardly knew.

He gave a different story later that morning, according to testimony from the witness, when she visited the flat on Calle Leon XIII where Marta is believed to have died. Delgado is then said to have told her that he had heard Marta’s voice at the door of the flat when she arrived with Carcaño at around 9pm on the 24th to pick up some CDs.
Susana G. arrived at the flat with the father of another friend in the search for the missing girl and said Miguel Carcaño was there with his brother. She described them both as ‘very calm, too calm to know what they already knew’. Neither, she said, asked her how the search for Marta was going. Susana G.’s impression as she walked into the living room was that it had recently been cleaned, with everything tidied away in its place.

In a further development on Tuesday, it’s reported by EFE that the judge has taken steps to guarantee the 240,000 € deposit he set jointly for four of the suspects to cover any future compensation to Marta’s family. Miguel Carcaño had offered the flat where Marta died as security for the compensation, and the judge has also decided to order an embargo on a pension plan he holds with BBVA.

As for his stepbrother, the judge has embargoed his assets in the flat where his ex-wife lives, a car, and compensation which he may receive from his former company for losing his job after spending three months on remand in the case.

Delgado has also been asked to tell the judge what he did with the 22,000 € he received for the sale of a parking space he owned with his ex. It’s understood the lawyer acting for Marta’s parents has asked the judge to investigate whether Delgado may be guilty of hiding assets in selling the garage space after dissolving a marital property agreement with his wife while he was in prison.

Delgado’s girlfriend, María G.M., and 19 year old Samuel B.P., who is accused of helping Carcaño dispose of Marta’s body, have both been declared insolvent by the judge.
