Eight of the Algerian travellers were rescued by a passing petrol tanker
One person is known to have died and another is missing after a patera small boat carrying ten male Algerian immigrants aged between 25 and 36, sank 30 miles to the SE of Cabo de Palos in Murcia last night.
The boat was spotted yesterday evening by a passing petrol tanker which rescued those it could and arrived back in Cartagena port at around midnight. Nine of the ten travelers made it on board the tanker, but one of the survivors is reported to be in a serious condition.
Reports indicate that there were high seas and strong winds in the area at the time.
