The opposition Socialist Party in Murcia is reported to have agreed to sit down with the governing Partido Popular to negotiate a pact against the economic crisis affecting the Region. It will cover questions such as water, infrastructure and regional funding, and will be discussed at a meeting between Regional President, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and PSOE’s spokesman, Pedro Saura.
Valcárcel made his proposal for the pact on the first day of the debate on the State of the Region on Monday, and Saura’s agreeing to dialogue is described by La Verdad newspaper as an important step forward that the parties have realised the need to jointly address the economic situation. The paper said previous offers of dialogue in the 2006 and 2008 debates did not bear any fruit.
