Two Britons arrested after forest fire in Almería

Two fires had been set to burn off scrub; One of the Britons arrested is 71 years old

A 71 year old British man, named with the initials W.W. has been arrested and another Briton has reportedly also been charged, after two fires to burn scrub in Alboloduy and Benizalón, Almería, got out of control.

Agents from the Junta de Andalucía autonomous police made the arrest after 80 hectares of scrubland was burnt in the Paraje Collado de los Cristos. The AL 5101 road had to be closed for a time because of the fire which was reported just before 5pm on Wednesday.

An INFOCA fire-fighting force had the blaze under control by 10pm, with local forces helped by those from Jaén, Málaga and Granada.
