A 40 year old mother of three has died in a fire which broke out in La Línea de la Concepción this Thursday morning, believed to be a domestic violence attack. The woman’s two and a half year old daughter and another family member were seriously injured in the blaze, and it’s understood that both suffered serious burns.
The child’s father, said by EFE to have been previously reported for abuse by the woman who died, was later arrested by police on suspicion of setting the fire. There are also reports that a distancing order was in place.
It happened on Calle Palangre in the La Atunera area of La Línea at around 11am on Thursday, where, EFE reports, local public safety councillor, Gabril Gonzálvez, commended police officers for their actions in rescuing the victim’s young daughter. One local policeman suffered burns to his hands in rescuing the child from the burning building, while another worked on keeping her alive until a medical team could reach the scene.
A number of those who attended the fire suffered the effects of smoke inhalation.
