Born in Barcelona in 1920, he died in the early hours of today (Friday) from breathing difficulties in Anantapur in India, and his wife and children were with him at the time, as were members of his Indian foundation.
His organisation had helped more than 2.5 million people in the south of India where he arrived as a Jesuit missionary in 1952, and from where he was expelled by the authorities in 1968.
