Central Government has postponed the process to expropriate the building

Two years after starting the process for the compulsory purchase of the El Agarrobico hotel in the Gata-Nijar Nature Park in Carboneras, Almería, the Government has taken a u-turn.

The Government now wants to wait for the situation of the hotel, built just 50 metres from the beach, to be clarified, given the many other judicial proceedings which have been opened in the case.

It wants clarification on the legality of the works licence, because otherwise the Government could find itself paying a large amount of money for the expropriation of a building which legally does not exist, if the licence for its construction is declared null.

The news was given by the central government delegate in Andalucía, Juan José López Garzón, who said they had now decided to wait to see what happens.

Many bodies have legally challenged the licence for the hotel which was awarded in its day by Carboneras Town Hall, including Ecologistas en Acción Almería, the Save Mojacar Association, and even the Department of Public Works and Transport from the regional Junta de Andalucía. These appeals are being heard in the Administrative Court Two in Almería.
