The Guardia Civil is reported to be combing Málaga province in the search for illegally built homes.

Diario Sur reports that more than 40 agents are currently employed in the task, distributed across the various districts of the province, both inland and along the coast.

They are working through the municipalities in alphabetical order and are reported to only have reached the letter ‘B’ and Benahavis.
2,000 illegal constructions have been found since 2003 and details of these have been sent on to the Environment Prosecutor and the Junta de Andalucía.

After the headline case of Marbella, where the fate of some 500 coastal properties is still being argued between the Town Hall and the Junta, and the recent publicized case of Alcaucín inland, many more cases are under investigation, such as in Tolox were 2,000 homes have allegedly been built illegally.

The Guardia Civil say they hope to complete their search by the end of the summer.
