A Spaniard has been fined 3,000 euros by a court in Northern Italy for trying to steal the Olympic torch.
He was one of a group of eight people who suddenly surrounded Italian athlete Eleonora Berlanda as she was carrying the torch through the town centre of Trent on Monday, ahead of the February Winter Olympics in Turin, and managed to take the torch from her from a few minutes.
Juan Antonio Fernándesz Sorrocho was arrested along with three other people, but only he and the Italian Daniele Benedetti were found guilty, as they were identified by a television recording of the event.
Both men had their prison sentences commuted to fines.
