A fire helicopter crashed while loading with water to fight the blaze. Four French tourists have meanwhile died in another tragic accident in Castellón

Two Generalitat firefighters have died in a tragic accident while fighting a blaze in Barcelona province this Monday. They were the occupants of a helicopter which crashed in Mollet del Vallès, as the aircraft was loading up with water to drop on the flames in Les Franqueses del Vallès.

The aircraft’s co-pilot was killed in the crash and it was later confirmed that the pilot, who was rushed to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, never recovered from his injuries.
Neither of the men has been named in reports.

It comes as the first large forest fires of the summer have been across the country with Cataluña and Castilla la Mancha the worst affected areas.

Four tourists from France meanwhile died in another tragic accident in Castellón, Valencia, this Monday, when their car came off the A-23 road in Segorbe, plunging some 15 metres into a ravine. All four were pronounced dead by emergency personnel who reached the scene.
