It would include a baby bonus to boost population and programmes to help prevent domestic violence

The government of the Murcia Region is hoping to boost population by offering a baby bonus for the birth of a second child and for any other children born in later years. It’s part of a new law under preparation, which also plans benefits for multiple births and for children born with an illness. Help would also be available towards the cost of assisted reproduction.

The Family Protection Law, as announced by regional president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel during the State of the Region debate last week, is based on the concept of the European family unit. That, EFE reports, includes all types of families, from the traditional to single-parent and same-sex partnerships. Apart from hoping to boost population, it aims also to support family conciliation, with programmes to help prevent violence in the home.

The draft text is expected to be presented before the end of the year.
