The US talk show host is taking more than 1,700 guests on a Mediterranean cruise

The US talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, has celebrated her 55th birthday by inviting her friends, staff and their families on an all expenses-paid trip to Barcelona followed by a luxury cruise. The Poble Espanyol resort in Montjüic was closed to the rest of the public from late Sunday afternoon for the TV star’s birthday party, which she celebrated there in the company of 1,723 people.

The birthday extravaganza continued with a 10-day cruise around the Mediterranean, which is said to be setting the billionaire star back more than 750,000 dollars – that’s around 5,000 dollars for each of her guests. She’s chartered The Norwegian Gem, which visits Greece, Turkey, Italy and Malta before returning to Spain on 5th July.
