Elche pensioner killed by speeding ambulance

She was struck as the ambulance was rushing to attend a cardiac arrest
A woman in her 70s, named by Diario Informacíon as María P.B., died in Elche on Tuesday when she was struck by an ambulance rushing to attend a cardiac arrest. It happened on a pedestrian crossing on Avenida de la Libertad where witnesses say the pensioner rushed to cross when she saw the ambulance approaching.
She failed to reach the other side in time and was hit by the speeding vehicle. The victim was thrown a number of metres by the force of the impact and emergency personnel in the vehicle pronounced her dead at the scene some 45 minutes later.
The local police have opened an investigation into the tragic accident.
