Three killed and 15 injured in Extremadura coach crash

There was a fatal coach crash in Extremadura on Wednesday, on the EX-100 road in Miajadas, Cáceres province. It happened near the A-5 Autovía de Extremadura, and at three people lost their lives and 12 were injured when the bus overturned on a roundabout.

Europa Press said the remaining 15 people on board all suffered injuries in the crash and most were transferred for medical attention at the Don Benito-Villanueva district hospital, where the Extremadura president, Guillermo Fernández Vara, was due to visit them. He was at the site of the crash, as was his public administration councillor, Ángel Franco, and the Mayor of Miajadas, Antonio Díaz.

Two other passengers are understood to have been admitted to the San Pedro de Alcántara Hospital in Cáceres city.

The accident involving an Autocares del Noreste coach happened when the coach was travelling from Villanueva de la Serena to Cáceres, and overturned while taking a roundabout, known locally as ‘rotonda del tomate’, shortly after 4pm on Wednesday. There is no information as yet on what caused the accident.
