The Semi- final ended 2-0 to the AmericansThe United States achieved yet another surprise in the Confederations Cup on Wednesday in the semi-final by beating Spain 2-0.
The United States team was perfectly organized in defence against the Spanish attack, and was always dangerous on the break. They successfully controlled the midfield and stopped the Spanish from developing their usual control of the game.
Spain looked weak in defence with defenders appearing slow to act in comparison with the United States players, and it was errors from Capdevila and Ramos which led to the two goals.
The United States go on to meet Brazil or South Africa in the final when everyone in Spain expected Spain to be meeting Italy, and now it remains to be seen if their good performance wakes up the United States public to the delights of the game. For once soccer is on the front pages of the United States papers this morning.
