Orihuela drug traffickers bring a ton of cocaine into Spain

The drug was hidden in pineapples and yucca plants

Alicante police anti-drug agents have confiscated a ton of cocaine found hidden inside a consignment of pineapples and yucca plants. The drug traffickers involved were based in Orihuela and intended to distribute the drug across both the Valencia region and Europe.

Información newspaper reports that there are about a dozen people arrested in the case which is described as one of the most important seen in the Valencia region. All those arrested are reported to be Spanish or Colombian.

The drugs are known to have been shipped into Spain via Algeciras port in two separate containers where they were detected some two weeks ago, after an investigation which was started some six months previously. The drug was unloaded in a Murcia warehouse and police intervened two consignments, one of more than 600 kilos of cocaine and a second with more than 300 kilos.

More arrests have not been ruled out in the case.
