The region wants to bring in legislation to give help to pregnant women

The PP controlled regional government in Valencia, La Comunitat Valenciana, is the first Spanish region to approve a new Maternity Protection Law which speaks of ‘the right to life from conception’, and includes as list of measures to avoid abortion.

The idea is to give help to those pregnant women who decide not to abort, with the legislation considering the unborn child as ‘another member of the family’.

The man behind the text is Juan Cotino, the deputy president for social policy in the region, who says it arrived in the regional parliament with a 80,000 signature petition.

It contemplates giving pregnant women priority in social public services, education, health, housing, transport and employment.
