Ex footballer, José Luis Pérez Caminero, has been granted bail and is at the disposition of the judge after being arrested on June 23 as part of a Guardia Civil operation against drug trafficking and money laundering.
Three other people, two banking professionals and a lawyer, all from Valladolid are reported to be implicated in the case in which more than half a ton of cocaine was recovered along with 2 million €. A total of 31 people were arrested in total.
The gang started operations in Madrid, but also acted in Valladolid, Sevilla and Barcelona and is alleged to have brought in cocaine from Mexico and Colombia.
In his day Caminero played for Atlético de Madrid, Real Valladolid and the Spanish national team.
