Fernando Verdasco is out though, beaten by the giant Ivo Karlovic
Juan Carlos Ferrero, who needed a wild card entry into Wimbledon is now the only Spaniard left in the quarter finals of the competition.
He has been training hard and working to improve his current position of 70 in the world.
On Monday he put out the number eight seed, the Frenchman Gilles Simon 7-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The man known affectionately as the mosquito has already surprised many by putting out the Chilean Fernando González. Next he meets the winner of the match between Briton, Andy Murray, and the Swiss, Stanislas Wawrinka.
Spain’s other great hope with the absence of Rafa Nadal this year, Fernando Verdasco, went out after a long game against the giant Croatian, Ivo Karlovic, who served new fewer than 35 aces during the match.
It ended 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-3 and 7-6(9) in a match which hardly managed to get any rallies going.
