The gas was released as a lake in the park was being disinfected

An error in procedures to disinfect a lake at the Terra Mítica theme park at 1130am on Monday morning led to the evacuation of some 200 people from the park which then remained closed for some two hours and a half.

The mixture of chemicals resulted in the escape of a gas which was not toxic but did have irritant properties.

There were no injuries or other consequences for the clients of the park.
