Spanish actress, Maribel Verdu, has been named as the winner of this year’s National Cinema Prize. The award is worth 30,000 € and is directed by the Ministry for Culture at the professionals who have developed their procession in the most outstanding way.
It comes as her latest film, ‘Tetro’, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, has just opened, with the jury saying Verdu was selected ‘for her excellent professional career, and her passionate commitment to Spanish and Latin American Cinema, brilliantly reflected in her work in 2008’.
Many will know her for her performance in Pan’s Labyrinth, the success of which was followed by ‘Siete mesas de billar frances’.
Last year the award went to actor Javier Bardem.
