23 Spanish provinces on high temperature alert

More than 20 provinces are on a weather alert for high temperatures today and some areas will see more than 40º as a wave of intense heat makes its way across the country.

Yellow alerts have been issued by the Spanish Meteorological Agency for a total of 23 provinces.
Only one province, Jaén, has been placed on the higher Orange alert.

Among the areas expected to be affected most by the heat today are Madrid, Navarra, La Rioja, Aragón, Cataluña, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, Murcia, Córdoba, Granada, Almería, and Mallorca.

Cataluña is forecast to face temperatures of 38 degrees, while in Madrid the mercury will rise to 37. Inland Valencia is expected to see 36 degrees, as is Murcia and the northern coast of Alicante.

The Cruz Roja has meanwhile translated their leaflets on how to avoid accidents over the summer into English, French and German, using the slogan ‘This summer, love yourself a lot’.

Outlook
Some cloud generated by the heat over the next few days with temperatures easing by a degree or two in some areas from Friday, although the Costa del Sol will remain very hot. Cloudy intervals in some coastal areas over the weekend.
