Workers are demanding they be paid the agreed wage increase of 3.5% this year

90% of workers in the construction sector are said to have followed the call for strike action on Wednesday, with unions estimating that 257,000 people downed tools. The action was called across Andalucía, with the exception of Huelva.

The unions are considering taking more legal action, considering that previously agreed wage deals of a 3.5% increase in pay for this year have not been met. The UGT-A union claims that more than 125 million € is already owed to its members for the first six months of the year.
It also says many are working in the sector without social security payments being made by the employers.

Nationally the wage increase is said to have been rolled out in 40 of the 52 provinces in the country, including Huelva.
