A Málaga church is introducing SMS messaging to light a candle to the virgen
Devotees of the Virgen de la Paloma in Málaga will shortly be able to light a candle in her honour from anywhere in the world.
The brotherhood of the Málaga temple has approved the use of new technology which will allow believers to send an SMS message in order for a new digital light to become illuminated on a plasma screen placed in the church.
An SMS costing 1€ 20 cents (mas IVA) will see a digital candle lit up for between ten and thirty minutes. If all the candles are already lit up, a return SMS will be sent explaining that their wish is in the queue, and then another when their turn comes round.
La Opinión de Málaga reports that the project is being developed by a company from San Roque, Candium. They intend to install the system in churches in other Andalucian provinces and around the world.
