The town currently forms part of Marbella
The pro-independents of San Pedro de Alcántara are reported to be negotiating with the regional government for the town’s segregation from Marbella. It comes after a ruling from the Supreme Court this March which ordered the Junta to reopen the application for self-rule which the Andalucía High Court deemed in 1994 to have lapsed the expiry date for the process.
La Opinión de Málaga reports the independents hope the support they say they have from the Socialist Party will help to reduce the 18-month period the Junta has to make its decision on their application. It’s understood a meeting to discuss the matter was held recently with the regional government’s representative in Málaga province, María Gámez.
