Spanish police have broken up plans for a prison break from the El Salto del Negro jail in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The 51 year old Italian drug trafficker, Guilio B., intended to use a four metre long inflatable zeppelin balloon to lift himself out of the prison, while three of his colleagues outside the jail had gone as far as to install motion detectors ahead of the escape attempt. They were only waiting delivery of the zeppelin from Italy.
However the prison authorities had previously intercepted letters which had drawings of the balloon plans and managed to intercept the balloon’s arrival, with the arrest of two Spaniards and a Uruguayan who were setting up the escape.
