The National Police want to keep crime levels down as thousands head for the beaches at the start of July
Welcome to Spain – Bienvenido a España.
Spanish National Police have launched a new ambitious information campaign aimed at foreign tourists this summer.
Called ‘Bienvenido a España, Disfrute con Seguridad’ they are giving advice intended to reduce the chance of foreign tourists becoming victims to crime, as such robberies increase in number at this time of the year.
Members of the National Police will also be available to help tourists in SATE foreign tourist information offices and in hotels and 300,000 leaflets are being distributed. The advice is really common sense – keep wallets out of sight, and the same for valuable items left in cars. Keep away from poorly lit areas, and be very wary of any unrequested offers of help.
Meanwhile heatwave temperatures have resulted in the Spanish beaches being packed for the first weekend in July.
The north of the country saw cloudy conditions and it seems has been harder hit by the recession with hotel occupancy levels down, but on the Costa del Sol a wave of last minute reservations, albeit for a reduced number of days, has led to beaches as busy as ever.
