Swimmers in the Elche swimming race were also affected
More than 100 bathers had to be attended to the Red Cross on Sunday after being stung by jellyfish on the beaches of Playa de San Juan and Muchavista in Alicante.
The yellow flag was flown as a result of the high numbers of stings, after 15 people were attended to in a single hour.
Some 40 people were attended to on the El Campello beach and some 20 of the 369 participants in the swimming race between the El Pinet and La Marina in Elche also had to receive treatment.
Experts say that the recent increase in temperatures has favoured the arrival of the jellyfish close to shore.
