The AVE high speed train link between Madrid and Valencia will be operational at the end of next year, when the journey will be completed in one hour and 35 minutes. The announcement came from Development Minister, José Blanco, and the Valencia President, Francisco Camps, who held a joint press conference following a meeting in Madrid this Tuesday.
The Ministry is investing almost 4.5 billion € in the project over this year and next, and the work will include gauge-changing installations to allow the AVE service to connect with Alicante and Castellón, also reducing the journey

time from both cities to the Spanish capital.
Another subject under discussion was 700 million € investment in Valencia and Alicante airports up until 2012.
Francisco Camps declined to answer any questions from journalists on his implication in the Gürtel corruption case; he limited himself to saying that he expects to be at the AVE inauguration at the end of next year in his capacity as Regional President, as, he said, the regional elections are not due to take place until 2011.
