A man in his sixties has drowned on a Cartagena beach after ignoring the red flag warning that the waters were unsafe for bathing. It happened on the Entremares Beach in the Manga del Mar Menor this Tuesday morning, when lifeguards ran into the sea to help two people who had got into difficulties.

One was brought safely out, uninjured, but the second was in cardiac arrest when the lifeguards brought him onto the shore. Europa Press reports neither they or the ambulance staff called out to the beach were able to revive him.

Neither his name or nationality has been released in reports on the tragedy, which comes after 10 people were rescued by lifeguards from the beaches of Cartagena on Saturday.
