They died on the same morning a man drowned on another local beach after ignoring the red flag
Tuesday was a tragic day for Cartagena with, La Verdad reports, three deaths on the local beaches. The first reported was a man in his sixties who died on the Entremares Beach in La Manga del Mar Menor after ignoring the red flag warning the waters were not safe for bathing.
It was only half an hour later that another man, aged 75, died in Puerto Bello after being taken ill while swimming off shore. He managed to make it to the beach himself, but collapsed on the sand. All attempts to revive him failed.
A 90 year old man died a similar death 30 minutes later on the Islas Menores beach.
Two children are meanwhile recovering in hospital after falling into swimming pools in Jumilla and Pinoso.
