Almuñécar is in three days of official mourning for the deaths of three local residents in the space of 24 hours. A concert due to be held at the Peñón del Santo on Wednesday night was cancelled as a mark of respect, Ideal newspaper said.
The first to die was 34 year old Miguel Ángel A.C., who died at 2pm on Tuesday when his motorbike collided with a car on the N-340 coast road near the Taramay industrial estate. He leaves a wife and two small children. Another motorcyclist, 17 year old Marcos A.S.N., died in a head-on collision between his moped and a car in Velilla just three hours later.
The third death was on Wednesday morning, when the body of a 40 year old man was found floating in a swimming pool on La Pirámide urbanisation in San Cristóbal. Ideal said he’s believed to have died at around 4 or 5 am after telling neighbours he was taking an early morning swim. His body was found at 7.15.
