A five year old girl died in a horrifying accident off Cabo Roig this Sunday, when she and her mother were hit by the family’s boat near the marina in Cabo Roig, Orihuela. It happened on Sunday morning when Europa Press reports mother and child were caught by the boat’s propeller. The 35 year old mother was seriously injured and is under treatment in the district hospital in Torrevieja.

It appears to have happened when the starboard engine was started up to solve a problem with the boat’s anchorage.

Óscar Villar, from the Torrevieja Maritime Area, told EFE the boat was anchored in an area clearly marked as an area prohibited to vessels and said he understood the person piloting the boat was the child’s grandfather.
