Marbella’s Playa Bahía was evacuated as a precaution on Monday after two small sharks were spotted close to shore and experts from the Aula del Mar centre were called in to help in trying to drive the fish further out to sea.

They were spotted at around 1pm, when just a small area of the beach was closed, but that was later extended to cover 5 kms of coastline later on Monday afternoon. Diario Sur said it affected the area from the tourism centre in Las Chapas to Río Real.

Boats from the Civil Guard and Protección Civil were assisting in the operation, while local police ensured the beach was kept clear.
