Villa celebrates his goal for Valencia - EFE
Mixed fortunes for Spanish sides in the second round of the Europa League with Valencia beating Genoa 3-2 in what was a tough game in the Mestalla. Valencia came back from behind with goals from Silva and Zigic, but then gave away a penalty and it was not until the 80th minute that Valencia took the final lead with another penalty converted by Villa.
The match saw four goals and two penalties in the second half and leaves Valencia leader of group B, together with Lille.
Villarreal came away from Salzburg with a 2-0 loss, finding themselves unable to do anything with the ball. It’s their sixth match in Europe without a win.
And the news was no better for Athletic Bilbao, who saw their third consecutive defeat with Werder Bremen winning the battle for top of Group L. It ended 3-1 with the consolation goal for Athletic coming from Llorente.
