A group calling itself ‘Let’s put Spain on the Map’ has set up a webpage to highlight the beauty of Spanglish.
They intend to discover the people who best show the richness of this mixture of Spanish and English languages, and have opened a competition where people can vote for their favourite candidates and possibly win a trip to Oxford.
100 videos on the page show some of the Spanish rich and famous, including from Francisco Franco, to José María Aznar, and current Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, speaking Spanglish – or not.
Sports commentator José María García is the current leader, and the page also includes musical examples such as Los Sobraos singing ‘Wonderwall’, and El Principe Gitano singing ‘In the Ghetto’.
