Another Spanish couple feared missing in the earthquake in Sumatra last week have been located, and are reported by Europa Press to be safe and sound in Medan, some 500 kms to the east of the disaster area. Their names are given as Mireia Mata Ginesta and Jaume Mata Prat, and it’s understood the Spanish Embassy in Indonesia managed to contact them this weekend.
Another couple were found safe and sound on the island of Siberut this weekend, but another Spaniard known to be in the area has yet to be located. The Embassy has managed to contact 40 Spanish nationals in Indonesia since the devastating earthquake last Wednesday.
The authorities in Indonesia decided this Monday to call off the search for any more missing survivors trapped beneath the rubble left by the devastation in Pedang. They believe it is impossible for anyone to have survived this length of time, and efforts are now being concentrated on the search for bodies and on clearing the ruins with bulldozers.
