The sacking of Ricardo Costa as the PP Number Two in Valencia leads most of the papers

El Mundo headlines that Mariano Rajoy and Francisco Camps sacked Costa with a non-existent resolution.
The paper says they claimed to have applied an agreement with the Regional Committee to remove Costa, but in fact that decision was never taken in Valencia. El Mundo quotes the PP Alicante deputy, Ripoll – ‘How bad we do things if we are not sure if what may have happened, happened, and what may not have happened, did not happen’.
The paper notes that Cospedal attacked Costa for his ‘friendships, conversations, actions and hardly exemplary company’.
El Mundo has a photo of the PP leader in Valencia, Francisco Camps, and says he appeared relieved after the meeting in Madrid which forced him to lose Ricardo Costa.
El Mundo notes too that the lawyer representing the businessman at the centre of the affair, Francisco Correa, has accused Judge Garzón of perversion of the course of justice for recording his conversations with his client.
El País headlines that the tricks of Camps to the PP bosses in Madrid threaten his political future. The paper notes that he has now given in to their pressure but some top managers think that there are reasons that he should go too.
Público headlines that Rajoy has abandoned Camps, and that the crisis has opened a split with the PP in Valencia, and that some Madrid managers are talking about Rita Barberá replacing Francisco Camps.
El País notes that Ricardo Costa’s replacement, César Augusto Asencio, wrote an article in 1979 denying the holocaust. The paper has a large front page photo of Costa. Público also reports on the holocaust denial.
La Razón headlines that Camps forced Costa to go in a tense supper on Tuesday, when he called on him to follow the orders from Rajoy.
The paper notes that any criticism of the Government in Congress yesterday met with the same responses – look at Valencia.

The paper also note that Jaume Matas, the ex PP leader on the Balearics, has now, with his wife and brother in law, been called as a suspect in the Arena corruption case. He will have to attend court in March next year.
El País notes that the case is about the Arena sports centre in Palma which cost more than double the budget.
La Razón says that Jaume Matas has been called after an investigation into his assets.

La Razón reports that the Anti-Corruption prosecutor is to investigate Gerardo Díaz Ferrán, the President of the employers’ organization CEOE, for possible fiscal crimes and the diversion of funds.

ABC reports that the ‘Socialist and Communist City Hall in Sevilla’ paid 21,000 € for ‘illegal Bolivians’ to travel to Madrid to vote for Evo Morales. The paper claims that those legal Bolivians who did not want to vote for him were excluded.

El Mundo reports that the Somali pirates have demanded a 2.7 million € ransom to release the 36 crew of the Alakrana, Spanish trawler. The paper notes they have also demanded the release of their two colleagues now being held in Spain.

Zapatero’s visit to Syria at the start of his Middle East tour brings some coverage. El Mundo has a photo of the Spanish Prime Minister putting on over-slippers to protect the floor of the Mosque.
La Vanguardia reports that Barack Obama was keen to tell Zapatero during his visit to Washington, that he wants to visit Barcelona. The paper says that the ground is now being prepared for an Obama visit to the Catalan capital.

El País notes that Croatia has got the green light to join the EU in 2012 as the 28th member state. The paper notes that Brussels has opened the door to Island, but thrown cold water on the aspirations of Turkey.

ABC leads with the headline that the EU has warned Spain that pensions and the health service are in danger because of the deficit. EU commissioner, Joaquín Almunia, has recommended in a report a severe cut in spending and notes that the aging population will increase costs over the next few years.

El Mundo notes that the PP regional president in Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, wants to cut red tape for trade in the capital to give a boost to the economy. The paper notes that while Zapatero raises taxes and increases the weight of the state in the economy, Aguirre is lowering taxes and liberalizing markets.

La Razón tells is that pharmacists in Madrid are taking out insurance in case of any problems or legal action resulting from their dispensing of the morning after pill.

El País notes that the slowdown in consumer spending in Spain has reactivated the risk of deflation. It notes the current annual IPC is now -1% after seven consecutive months in negative territory.
El País also notes five experts from Congress given the job of writing a report on the new Dependency Law have concluded that it is unsustainable, because of the lack of solid finance. They recommend an additional Social Security charge, or for pensioners to pay for part of their prescriptions.

All the Spanish papers celebrate ten wins from ten for the Spanish football team.

And finally,
ABC tells is that Mussolini was an MI5 British spy and was paid the equivalent of 6000 € a week.
