Spanish 125cc rider, Julián Simón, was proclaimed World Champion over the weekend at the circuit in Phillip Island
in Australia.
The rider from Villacañas kept his cool after a poor start in the race, and soon found his best rythmn.
The championship finally came down to two riders, Simón and Bradley Smith, but it was the Spaniard who took his chances in the last lap to surprise and overtake the rider from Oxford.
In the Moto GP Jorge Lorenzo fell on the first lap, and Dani Pedrosa came in third, behind Valentino Rossi and the winner Casy Stoner. It means that Rossi is almost certain to pick up the title; he has a 38 point lead over the rider from Mallorca who has an injured finger and suffered a blow to his nose.
In the 250cc Álvaro Bautista has said goodbye to his championship hopes after falling as Marco Somoncelli won in Austrialia to put him second in the table ahead of Bautista. Hisoshi Aoyama has a 12 point lead at the top.
