The judge investigating suspected fiscal fraud to the tune of 4.4 million € in construction of the Terra Mítica theme park in Benidorm has requested information from Andorra , where money to be invested in the park is believed to have ended up.
Some 30 suspects and 20 businesses are implicated in the case over alleged false invoices issued for work which was not carried out. Instruction Court No. 3 in Valencia has asked Andorra for information on bank accounts believed to have been held in Spain’s neighbour by two of the main suspects, the businessmen Vicente Conesa and Antonio Moreno Carpio.
It comes after a request for the move from the prosecutor last month, who believes, El País reports, that a large part of the overspend on the theme park and the money obtained from false invoices was moved abroad: to Andorra, Switzerland and Germany. The man the prosecutor believes moved most of the money is Vicente Conesa, who El País notes as a close friend of Eduardo Zaplana, the ex President of the Valencia regional government.
According to the prosecution service, ‘Antonio Moreno Carpio admits that the money obtained from false invoices was delivered to Vicente Conesa and was taken in suitcases to Andorra, where bank accounts were held in the name of some of the suspects’.
