Four of those arrested in the Pretoria case make bail

1,125,000 € was collected by the court on Monday

The Catalan Socialist Party, PSC, has suspended its three members who are implicated in the Pretoria corruption case which has emerged over the past week. This includes Bartomeu Muñoz, the Mayor of Santa Coloma, Councillor Manuel Dobarco, and director of council services, Pasqual Vela.

The Mayor has meanwhile repeated his claim of innocence. In a statement read by his lawyer, he reminded the press of his dedication to the town of Santa Coloma since 1974. He has also stood down as Vice President of the provincial government.

Meanwhile four of those accused in the case have paid 1,125.000 € in bail money, making the payment on Monday, the last day given to them by the judge Baltasar Garzón last Friday. They are Pasqual Vela and three businessmen, Lluís Casamitjana, Josep Singla y Manuel Carrillo.

According to the court documents, the main activities of the group was to obtain real estate land reclassifications, collect commissions, commit bribery, tax fraud, as well as fraud in obtaining EU grants, among other charges. The group made the most of the positions in authority of some, and the political and business contacts of others.
