As many as 33 Spanish provinces are on yellow weather alert today, Saturday, as the Meteorological Agency warns about strong hinds, rain, snow and high waves.

Albacete is on orange alert for strong winds of up to 90kms/hour which will also be present in Tarragona, the Cantabrian coast and Melilla.

The snow line has fallen in the north of the country to 900m to 1,200m and has reached the Navacerrada mountain pass to the north of Madrid for the first time this autumn.

Heavy showers are forecast in Cantabria, the north of Navarra, Mallorca and Menorca, with light showers for other parts of the north of the country, the Pyrenees, and the Madrid Sierra.

The Mediterranean coast will be generally sunny however, although still an isolated shower is possible in some areas.

It will be cooler, especially in the NE of the country.

The forecasters say that four provinces will reach a red weather alert on Sunday as strong winds and rain buffer the areas of Asturias, Cantabria, Vizcaya and Guipúzcoa.

There will be a general but temporary improvement in the weather on Tuesday.
