3 schools did not open on Monday, and the Town Hall has advised parents to keep their children at home

Benidorm is in feria, but the high winds affecting Alicante province on Sunday, reaching up to 90 kms an hour at the Mutxamel aerodrome, forced police to close down the fairground to the public and secure the stalls at the site.

Elsewhere in the province, a woman kayaking in El Campello got into difficulties in the strong gusts of wind affecting the area near the fishing port and was rescued by emergency services. In Elche, the municipal park and fairground attractions were closed as a precaution, with minor incidents in other parts of the province owing to the high winds.

Diario Información reports that the Generalitat has called a pre-emergency across Valencia’s three provinces with winds of up 100 kms an hour expected on Monday. Many of the fishing fleets in Alicante province remained in port.

There was more damage on Monday, with falling tree branches causing damage to power lines in some parts of the Region and, in Elche, the Town Hall advised parents to keep their children at home. It’s understood from EFE that three local schools were, in fact, closed.
