Iberia has cancelled 368 flights for Tuesday and Wednesday because of more strike action by cabin crew. It’s the second 48 hour stoppage, and comes after the company and unions again failed to reach agreement.
The strike action will affect mostly national routes, but also some routes to Europe, New York and Latin America. There is a telephone information number established – 902 400 500

Meanwhile the SEPLA pilots union has denounced that the Air Comet pilots have not been paid for four weeks, and that cheques have been bouncing. The airline is chaired by the head of the employers organisation, CEOE, Gerardo Díaz Ferrán.
The President of the Spanish Family Business Association, Simón Pedro Barceló, has launched harsh criticism against both the Government and the Partido Popular opposition, calling on them to unite in a state pact for regeneration.
He claims that corruption in Spain threatens the future of the country and its exit from recession.
‘They ask us to pay more taxes, but don’t give us what we deserve’, he said, claiming that corruption is paralysing the work of some administrations, and creating a climate lacking confidence.
The Ministry for Economy is reported to be considering approving harsh austerity plans in public bodies as a way of controlling the high state deficit. A new financial plan for 2010 to 2012 is being drawn up and reports say some bodies may even close. El País prints the details today.
The Minister for Employment, Celestino Corbacho, has been interviewed in El Mundo today. He says that we will face labour reform in the future to adapt the market to the new demands. He also tells the paper that the unemployment numbers in Spain will improve ‘in an important way’ in the Spring.
The total value of housing in Spain will be 7% lower at the end of this year than it was last at 4.19 billion. The number comes from FUNCAS, the Federation of Spanish Savings Banks. The number is 12% lower than what it was when the real estate market was at its peak.
Competition authorities in Spain, The National Competition Commission, CNC, are investigating whether the electricity companies, Endesa, Iberdrola, HC Energía, Unión Fenosa and E.on have formed an agreement to avoid sharing the data on their clients with other independent electricity companies. Investigations started in July, and now the offices of their association have been inspected by the CNC.
Spain has said she is against the wishes of Brussels to modify the distribution of resources in the Common Agricultural Policy from 2013. Spain is drawing up an alternative text which will it will be promoting when it takes up the EU presidency for the six months from January 1.
There are press reports that the head of General Motors in Europe is thinking of resigning. Nick Reilly is known for giving priority to Chevrolet over Opel in the group. He had been the leading candidate to take over the new Opel.

The current winds across Spain saw more than half the country’s energy needs being met by wind power for five hours on Saturday night. It’s the first time that the 50% level has been broken.
