The aftermath of the flooding in Los Realejos - EFE
Paulino Rivero, President of the Canary Islands, was in the Valle de La Orotava on Wednesday, the area on the north of Tenerife which was hit by severe flooding earlier this week. He has promised urgent aid to those affected and said every family whose home was damaged by the floods will receive at least 8,500 €, with a larger amount to be made available for special cases.
Loss of a vehicle will be covered with a maximum of 6,000 €, La Opinión de Tenerife reports. There is also financial assistance available from central government, and all applications for either the state or regional aid must be made through the local Town Halls.
It’s understood that mains water supply has now been restored in Los Realejos, one of the areas to be most affected by the floods.
