They say they feel tricked by the Junta de Andalucía over town planning regulations

Mayors from across the Axarquia region of Eastern Málaga province are threatening to resign en masse, in protest at the actions by the Junta de Andalucía regarding illegal building in the region. They say they feel tricked by the regional government and hope to meet with the regional councillor for housing and territorial planning, Juan Espadas.

It comes after the regional councillor for the presidency, Luis Pizarro, said last week that the LOUA, the Andalucía Urban Planning Law, would not be modified to legalise the irregular homes built in the district.

The President of the Málaga Diputación, Salvador Pendón, also said the procedure to legalise the properties could take place without any changes to the law, as that has been done in other parts of Andalucía.

PP Mayor of Comares, Manuel Robles, told Diario Sur however that the Mayors want to face the problem as one and deal directly with the top people in the Junta.

He said construction along the coast cannot continue without problem while inland they can do absolutely nothing.

Some of the Axarquía Mayors already face prison sentences for town planning irregularities in the region.
