The man the accused paid to kill his two older brothers will spend 44 years behind bars

A man accused of contracting the killing of his two brothers in the inland Málaga village of Villanueva del Trabuco in March last year has been found guilty as charged and is to spend the next 50 years in prison. The man he paid to fire the fatal shots gets a sentence of 44 years.

The court ruled it proved that the deal was struck in August 2007, when the two victims’ younger brother, J.C.P., offered between 48,000 and 180,000 € to another man from the village, M.A.G.A., to kill his two brothers. EFE gives his motive as the family inheritance he would gain with his brothers’ deaths from the properties which had been left to the siblings in their father’s will. He also stood to gain as a beneficiary of their life insurance.

The murder weapon was a shotgun stolen from a local hunter on 29th February 2008, just two days before M.A.G.A. shot the victims, Juan and Francisco Cabello Podadera, at close range as they were eating their mid-day meal in an olive grove they owned on the outskirts of the village.

The younger brother contacted police that same day to report that he had found his brothers shot to death. He and the killer must now pay almost 200,000 € compensation to the fourth sibling, his sister, Josefa.
