Ryanair has announced new routes from Alicante which will link the city with Venice in Italy, Spanish cities Sevilla and Valladolid, Altenburg in Germany, Krakow in Poland, and Smàland and Stockholm in Sweden.
The company plans to start the new services at the end of March 2010 and also to strengthen some current routes from El Altet, Alicante. The Sevilla route will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The new routes were announced on Tuesday by the airline’s boss, Michael O’Leary, who travelled to Alicante to make the presentation. He said Alicante would see 500 flights a week, carrying three million passengers a year, 50% more than now. He said investment for the airline worldwide would be nearly 400 million € next year and that some 3,000 jobs would be maintained.
Nine new planes will be based in Alicante and 250,000 seats on routes from the city for Christmas will be placed on their website at midnight Thursday at a price of 5€.
